GIVE THEM AN ADVANTAGE
Kids benefit from karate practice in many ways, including improved confidence, self-control, self esteem, ability to focus, confidence, manners and respect for others. As an additional benefit, many children also excel in other athletic and academic endeavors as the benefits of karate spread into the other aspects of their lives. Karate training gives your child the opportunity to strengthen in mind, body and spirit. It encompasses not just the physical aspect of the art, but mental and emotional lessons as well.
KARATE AND BULLYING
Karate can be of great benefit to all those involved in bullying. Kids who tend to bully learn about self control and not to “act out” due to having a healthy outlet for their stress, anger and issues to be healed and released. Children who are bullied become empowered and learn how to exist without fear through confidence in their own abilities.
QUALITY INSTRUCTION
Crucial to your child's success as a martial artist is the integrity and ability of their instructors. Today there are many choices for your child's martial arts education- be sure you are making the right choice by researching where you will send your family. Look for an instructor who "walks the walk" and is the type of martial artist you would want your child to be. Check out their qualifications, training philosophies and watch how they interact with the students. Make sure they have spent the years of training required to master the art and acquired the gift of teaching it to children in a healthy and meaningful way.
CHOOSING YOUR CHILD'S DOJO
Where and how your child trains can of course affect the type of martial artist they become. "Karate" is a broad term and can refer to many different experiences such as traditional Okinawan Karate, Japanese Karate, Sports Karate and combinations thereof. Some dojos are commercial franchises and some are bespoke. Do a little bit of research and consider what type of experience you think is best for your child when it comes to learning karate. If you’re not sure, try some different trial lessons and find the one that resonates most with them.
