KATA

Many traditional martial arts are based largely on the practice of forms. In the case of Karate, the forms are called kata. They are series of movements which contain the techniques of the art. Kata are practiced regularly and the goal is to perfect the movements in order to absorb the techniques into muscle memory as well as to facilitate transmission from teacher to student.

Each style of Karate has different kata, although they often share the same names. The following is a list of basics (simple forms), the traditional Shorin Ryu Karate kata and Ryukyu Kobudo kata practiced in our dojo.
